From a human perspective, the world of ants is just a collection of small parts that move the earth beneath our feet in a single motion. A sense of contrast played out in levels of visuals and design techniques, sometimes making the visitor feel like an observer of the tiny insects, and sometimes making them feel small and fit into their world. The limited colour palette, which separates the viewer from the depiction of reality and allows him to enter the ant-sized world, is combined with gold accents that serve as a hierarchical marker, indicating the values that permeate the story of the exhibition and the life of the ant. The design solution of the exhibition is built on three principles: exaggerated contrast and the feeling of big/small (allowing the visitor to feel how small the ant is, while also showing contrastingly large details – the visitor’s experience of what it is like to be small in a big world), black and white pattern (the ant world is a collection of small parts, sometimes resembling moving patterns), internal organisation, hierarchy, relationships (showing the visitor the metaphor of their family values). The exhibition has been created in close collaboration with the Latvian National Museum of Natural History, giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about the amazing world of insects in an interactive and comprehensive format.
